So your kid grows up and wants a Mustang

Ahhhh! I remember like it was almost yesterday, my first Mustang, a 1978 Mustang II Mach1 with 77k miles, T-tops, white with blood red interior, BFG's bought from Super Shop's over on Lake Air, custom duals and turbo mufflers with dumps, prowling Valley Mills till the wee hours of the morning on the weekends.

And meeting all sorts of hot roders and car cruisers, one that really stands out in my mind was a barely 16 year old kid with a freshly restored maroon 1965 coupe with magnum 500s, duals, 302 and a C-4, General XP2000 shoes with the white letters out, and best of all, matching pillows his mom made him for the back seat, man talk about coolness, his first car, and a classic one at that, what a dream come true.

Well many moons and Mustangs later, it seems as though this has come full circle, now my kids are grown and ready for thier first car, so I guss I'd better get cracking.

One day I ran into a friend of mine whom flips Mustangs for a hobbie, was bopping around town in this little blue coupe that he'd pick up and it seemd to catch my eye, why? cause it wasn't your typical 87-93 fox coupe, upon closer inspection it turned out to be a somewhat low milage 1979 Ghia coupe, with a now defunked (mid year 1979 factory deletion, replaced by the old school small block inline sixer, other wise known as the "Sprint 200" back in the 60's) 2.8 solid lift, 2bbl, 109hp V-6 and C-4 automatic. (UNTOUCHED/not molested)

I say low miles cause it only has some 88k miles on it.

I asked my frien if this was one of the cars he was flipping, and he note yes it was and said I could have first dibbs on it when he was ready, and one day that came about, but being short on cash, as always seems to be that case, I asked if there was something I could do for him, and with that a deal was struck.

His wife needed a timing belt on her little Mitzu SUV, and so a bartering deal was struck, 4+ hours later after some timming belt work I now owned a 1979 Mustang Ghia coupe, PERFECT!

Unfortunately, after reciving the car and getting a fox body recongnition guide from LRS, I found out that the car originally was metallic grey with red interior, well the guide just confirmed what I had suspected through my close inspection, BUMMER!

Ok no big deal, I wanted to keep it all bone stock but a few changes won't be too bad I guess, the real kicker that keeps me from going back 100% original, is someone has already reconvered the seats, in a really nice blue, if it wasn't for that I'd flip it back to the original colors.

So with that minor hicup, my plan is to leave the interior blue, but find the correct Ghia door panels in blue and proceer, and paint the outside a Wimbledon white, with black trim, which will be a nice accent to the blue interior, and waould also be a semi Ford color combo.

Luckly the car is pretty straight, only one spot in the driver's rear quarter, has a small no crease dent, but man does it have some ugly wheels

    NOTE CONSOLE DELETE CAR

    TO BE CONTINUED.......................

I'll keep the wood grain if you'll post the Halloween Mod Squad pic of you and the LTD =P

Yes I'm leaving the wood grain, and man I really need not post that early in the morning without more coffe, that's a LOT of typo's

It's a nice solid no rust car, originally from Houston per the DSO, and as you can see for some odd reason all the colors were changed, go figure?

I have been parts collecting, like two really nice clean set of tail lamp assy with lenses, "A" pillar trim, a factory AM/FM CASS radio with knobs and bezel, the under dash ash tray, a complete front bumper cover assy, remote mirror knob covers, and an 82' GT hood scoop I couldn't give away that's been in my attic for a couple of years.

I also picked up (from you guys) some door to body, trunk and run channel weather striping that gets installed this weekend (weather permitting) so I can keep the weather out.

There are still a lot of little things I need to gather up to get me closer and closer, and belive you me I two seperate lists, one for LRS and the other for the salvage yards.

You know how hard it is to find these in salvage yards, you really have to look, hell I just need to go drive around the back roads of some of these little country towns and find them in peoples back yards.

But yeah this is going to be a really cool resto.

Well today is kind of an uh-oh we better get cracking day.  Our son turned 15 today so in one year, we hand over the keys to him and pray that he'll be alright.

First car was a 92 notchback. Wrecked it 2 weeks later. (sadface)

Real cars don't spin the front tires. The lift them.
