    T-5 problem

I have an 89 GT. A few weeks back, i was heading home from work. I noticed i heard a light tapping. The next day i drained fliud and replaced with new fluid. Over the next 2 days it got worse. It would only tap in first gear, then first and second, then first second and third. now it taps in first second, third and fifth. a few buddies told me to replace the throwout bearing. i installed an entire clutch kit. still taps like before .one of my friends told me its my input shaft bearing. because when you take off the input shaft turn in the first 3 gears. then when you go into fourth in goes to the countershaft, then in fifth back to the input  shaft.   he said it can be replaced. so i bought it the other day. what do you think ? and what do you suggest i do? i dont have the money for a new transmission right now. i found a used one for 300 at a local salvage yard. thanks for your help in advance.

There could be a number of things causing the sound you hear. It is hard to diagnose this problem without actually experiencing it first hand. Here is what I think you should do! I would find a good shop and see how much it would cost to diagnose the problem. Once you know what the problem is see if you can aford to have it fixed. If more than the cost of a new or good used I would replace it. Be careful when buying a used T-5 because there are several different variation of this transmission. Make sure you are getting V8 transmission.

Its defently a good start and just make sure the you put all the pieces back in because when I had to replace my clutch in my 88 I had a buddy help me and he forgot to put the clip back on the end of the clutch fork and needless to say I found out the hard way.
