George, what crossover are you referring to?  What specific vacuum lines are you having trouble with?

Have same issue ... just put in the cobra intake in place of stock intake and since there's no spacer needed where do I re-route the water lines that use to go through that spacer ... the cobra doesn't have imputs for them ...please advise.

    Re: COBRA INTAKE SWAP

Okay guys, here it goes........ We'll start witht he 2 coolant hoses that used to run to the EGR spacer.  Cap them off.  The Cobra upper intake does not have coolant circulated through it.  Next is the small vacuum nipple located on the front of the intake just behind the throttle body.  Hook the canister purge hose there (the hose coming from the charcoal canister located on the passenger side frame rail).  Now we'll move to the back of the intake on the underside, there you'll find a large vacuum nipple & a large threaded hole.  On the back underside of your stock intake there was a black metal vacuum tree that has 2 small nipples & one large one.  Take the black metal vacuum tree out of your stock intake & put it in the threded hole on the back underside of the Cobra upper.  The 3 hoses that hooked to the tree before will go back in their same positions.  For the large nipple next to the threaded hole, it can be capped off.  On the underside rear corner of the Cobra upper there should be an elbow with a large vacuum nipple.  This goes to the PCV valve.  That pretty well covers it, if y'all have any more questions I'll do my best to answer them.

    Re: COBRA INTAKE SWAP

Here's what I did ( pls note this was before I asked the question for the coolant hoses LOL ) ... regarding the vacuum lines in the underside of the intake I place both the stock and the cobra intakes side by side and basically I hooked up the lines that I saw the stock one had to the cobra intake vacuum tree (since it came with it already).

When I added the intake I also added 1.7 rockers, E Cam, 70 mm TB and a BBK CAI and for exhaust flowtech's longtubes, O/R H and 44 flows.

I love the crackling sound the cam makes but I since have got the smell of crude gas somewhere a top the intake, a buddy of mine says that I need more spark and recomends I get an MSD distribuitor to help these mods.

You think that I'm probably missing something or do I need to upgrade my dist.

    thanks.

If you have a smell of raw fuel at the intake, then you have a leak.  Start at the fuel pressure regulator & remove the vacuum line.  If raw fuel or the strong smell of it is present at the vacuum port, then the regulator has failed & needs to be replace.  Look at all of your injectors closely (engine off) after cycling the key several times to build pressure.  If any of them are wet then you will either need to replace the o-ring seals or possibly replace the injector.  Look at the 2 spring lock connections where the fuel lines connect to the fuel rails to make sure they're dry.  If not, replace the o-ring seals.

While a distrubutor upgrade can never hurt (especially when replacing a higher mileage stock unit), it will not help your fuel smell issue.

Gald we could be of help!  I hope you were able to get everything back together & enjoy driving your car.  The 1.7 rockers should be a diect bolt on to the GT40P heads as long as the stock cam & push rods are retained.  Some aftermarket cams have a base circle that is smaller than stock & require a longer pushrod to compensate.

    Re: COBRA INTAKE SWAP

Great informaiton jmac! I have a cobra intake I am putting on my 89 Mustang. I am also putting GT-40P heads that I have lightly ported and cleaned up. (gasket matching). Can you recommend for me which size throttle body would be best? I am up in the air over which cam I will choose, currently leaning towards the F303. You input would be appreciated.

     Thanks, Brian

    Re: COBRA INTAKE SWAP

financer83rs, I'd run a 65mm.  The F303 is a good cam, it just depends on what you are doing with the car.  Something like a TFS stage 1 would work quite well.

    Re: COBRA INTAKE SWAP

WELL HERE I AM AGAIN.   GOT INTAKE ON BUT SMELLS LIKE IT IS FLOODING AT EXHAUST.  RAW SWEET GAS SMELL. NOT OVER HEATING HAS ALL NEW SENSORS  FROM FORD NOT MISSING JUST FLOODING. STILL HAS SMOG PUMP WITH ONE HOSE WHICH WENT TO REAR OF HEADS  STOPPED OFF . I AM GOING TO INSTALL A SMOG PUMP DELETE SOON AS I CAN GET INSPECTED.  I AM GOING TO CUT VAC. OFF TO EGR PUMP AND SEE IF THAT HELPS.  IS THERE A SPECIAL HOOK UP WHEN USING GT40P HEADS?

                                                                                   THANKS AGAIN ,          GEORGE

George, what is your fuel pressure reading?  With the car off, pull off the vacuum hose going to the fuel pressure regulator & see if you smell raw gas.

    Re: COBRA INTAKE SWAP

DO NOT HAVE A MOUNTED GAUGE YET.  I PUT A NEW FACTORY FUEL  REG. ON BEFORE INSTALLING FUEL RAIL. THIS CAR HAD SET FOR SOMETIME BEFORE I GOT IT.  I TRYED TO GET ALL THE OLD GAS I COULD OUT BEFORE ATTEMPING TO START AND ONLY PUT ABOUT 4 GALLONS OF FRESH GAS IN ON TOP OF WHAT WAS LEFT IN TANK . I PULLED THE VACUUM HOSE AND DID NOT SMELL STRONG. THIS COND. SMELLS LIKE A FLOODING CARB. ENGINE WHEN IT IS RUNNING RICH.  ALL SENSORS WERE NEW AND CAME WITH CAR . THROTTLE POS. SENSOR WAS CHECKED AND SHOWED TO BE .97 V.

                                                                                       THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP,

                                                                                            GEORGE

    Re: COBRA INTAKE SWAP

Really need to verify fuel pressure, just to rule it out.  Most auto parts stores have a tool rental program, so you should be able to rent a fuel pressure gauge kit if you don't want to buy one yet.  Another thing to look at when you have the fuel pressure gauge hooked up is to see how long the fuel pressure stays up with the key off.  Injectors will stick, even if sitting for just a short time.  It is possible that an injector is stuck open.  If you take a long screwdriver & a hammer & tap on each injector, it may free up the injector if there is one (or more) stuck.  Does the car run rough or is it hard to start?  Where is your timing set at with the spout removed?
