As some of you have seen our new updated Custom Tune Program Blog, we have recently added 1996-04 year model Mustangs to our tuning line up. We have added several new tuner kits and made all the proper changes to our custom tune information sheet to ensure all of our customers can easily obtain a custom tune for their 1996-04 Mustang V6, GT or Cobra! If you are not already familiar with our custom tuning program, you can check out some more info on our Mustang Custom Tune Program Page!

We recently had the opportunity to try out one of Blow-By Racing's custom tunes on our sales manager's 1999 Mustang Cobra! Mike had recently installed a new JLT Cold Air Intake Kit, Ford Racing 4.10 Ratio Gear Set and also a strategy tune off of his SCT SF3 Tuner, so we figured what better platform could we ask for to test out a custom Blow-By Racing Tune! Being we just introduced this new updated program for the 1996-04 Mustangs, we figured a little "How To" was in order to get the proper information needed tohave your very own Blow-By Racing custom tune made.

First and foremost, the most important key to getting the proper tune for your Mustang made is knowing the PCM or computer code. This can be found on the PCM label. The PCM on 1996-04 Mustangs is located behind the passenger side kick panel. Here are some pictures to show to access the PCM.....

First you will need to remove the scuff plate. This simply pops out of place with a little tug. There are 4 clips holding this on so move slowly along and be careful not to break the scuff plate.

Next up you will need to remove the lower kick panel. This is held in place with 1 push pin. The simplest method for removing this is to reach behind the front of the kick panel and slowly pull outward. This will bring the push pin out with the kick panel to prevent damage to the push pin.

Once you have removed the kick panel, you will see a lot of wires and a couple of connecting harnesses. Behind all of those you will find your PCM. This is the big silver object in the picture below. You can see the white label that is located on the edge of the PCM. This tag has your computer code, along with some other information. I drew an arrow to show where the PCM code is and  enlarged the it to show you exactly what to look for. It is always made of 3 letter and 1 number, in this case Mike's PCM code is ZMR2. Now you may be saying that was quite a bit just to get to PCM code but the results are well worth the time!

After you get the PCM code, simply re-install the kick panel followed by the scuff plate.

Now that you have one key piece of your information, it is time to pick out the Mustang Tuner Kit, SCT Tuner or individual Blow-By Racing Custom Tune you want to purchase! We have a full listing of all of our Custom Tune Kits to make it easy for you to find what you are looking for. Once you have purchase an eligible tuner kit, SCT Tuner or tune, you will be emailed a confirmation email. This email not only shows your order status but there is a link to take you to the custom tune information sheet! The text shown in the red box below will be located at the top of your [LRS] Order Confirmation email. I highlighted the link in red.

The tune information sheet is a very important part of making your custom tune, so please fill it out carefully. The tune form ask a variety of questions such as the PCM code, SCT tuner serial number, year, make and model of your Mustang, performance modifications, gear ratio, and several others. All of these questions are very important to ensure your tune is made just for your Mustang and the performance parts you have installed on it to get the most power and best drive-ability possible.

You may have noticed that the SCT serial number is required to make your custom tune, this is true. Here is a quick picture of where the serial number is on an SCT SF3 Tuner....

If you already have your own SCT tuner, all you need to do is enter the 12-13 digit serial number located on the bar code sticker that is on the back of the tuner along with the other information. Once we make your custom tune,  we can email it directly to you!
