The wife and I wanted to change the look of our 2001 V6 Mustang. We already installed the black halo headlights, now it's time to choose a matching set of taillights. I personally like the "3 bar" lights that have always been associated with the Pony car and the SDT-13404F 1999-04 Mustang smoked LED euro taillights are a perfect match!

To complete the installation you will need an 11 mm wrench, ratchet, 6 inch extension and an 11 mm socket. Pop the trunk on your Mustang and use one of our door panel removal tools to remove the 4 pushpins that secure the latch cover.

The next thing to get out of the way is the panel that covers up the tail light retaining nuts and the inertia switch. There are two retainers that can be removed by hand. Remember.."righty tighty..lefty loosy" Carefully remove this panel and set it aside.

Each tail light is secured with a 11mm nut that is very easy to see, and one that is recessed on the bottom side. You will need the extension to get to that one. After you remove those, there is one more hidden in the outside corner of the trunk. I used an 11mm wrench to break it loose, and then took it off with my hand. Be careful it is a tight fit.

After they have all been removed you are able to pull the tail light assembly out. You will have to twist all of the lights to remove them from the assemblies. You need to take out every light bulb EXCEPT the reverse light, because that is the only bulb that will be used.

Here are the old and the new lights together.  The new ones have a clean look to them.

The new taillights are very easy to hook up. The reverse lights twist into the new assemblies in the same location as the old ones. There is a light connector that is sticking out of the new assembly, where a parking light socket plugs into it. The rest of the sockets just twist into the assembly WITHOUT the bulbs.

That is it. The one connector operates all three of the LED patterns. Reinstall everything and enjoy those bright lights.
