Adam Fetsch is a Chevy guy. Tried and true. He is local guy that picked up one of our raffle tickets as he was in our showroom ordering some Jet Hot coated Kooks longtubes for his black 2010 Camaro SS. He knows a few of the people that work here and has raced against them at the local track and bench raced on the forums. Just an average gear head that runs a wholesale freight distribution company during the day, and is trying to make a name for himself installing parts and tuning those infamous GM LS motors under the name of Ultimate Motorsports after the work day is done.

Adam was at the event and briefly looked at the beautiful 1993 Vibrant Red Cobra in our raffle booth. To the novice Chevy guy, it was just a red Mustang, not knowing the legend behind the name or that is was the first year of SVT. I doubt he knew of its sister car, the storied 1993 Cobra R with no radio, no a/c and no backseat. Since he was a GM guy, perhaps he knew only of the rare 1992 Pontiac Firehawk that shared some of those characteristics. He walked the event with his friends looking at the many cars and I'm sure that there was some good ole Ford vs Chevy talk that ensued throughout the day. His friends even commented during the event that he would probably win the car since he was a Chevy guy.

When it came time for the drawing, the raffle bin was spun several times and the owner of LRS, Shannon Guderian, reached in his hand and pulled the lone ticket. As Shannon declared that the winner was from Waco and a local, Adam's friend elbowed him and said "it's you!" Then Shannon started spelling the last name, and Adam's heart started pounding and thought that it actually could be his name. Once hearing the full name, Adam jumped up not really knowing what to think. He ran down to the starting line and without really thinking twice, opted for the cash. Not a bad choice, because with the holidays coming soon, $6500 could really help pay some bills, but what does he shout out? "I'm going to use this to put a turbo on the Camaro SS!" Jerry Heasley, our photographer for the day compliments of 5.0 Magazine, took some pictures of Adam holding the big check below his LSX T-shirt. As the crowd filed out of the stands and headed towards their cars, Adam was still excited and told everyone that he has never won anything before.

The next day as Adam thinks about his decision and after hearing it from some of his Ford friends, says "Maybe I should have taken the car. But after taxes and then probably selling it, I would end up with about the same amount of cash without all of the headaches." Adam tells me, "I'm still going to put a turbo on my car but I'm going to do some other things with the money first." With a little grin he said "Maybe it's best I didn't take the car, I would have made a lot of people mad after I put an LS1 in it!" Indeed, Adam you definitely would have had people screaming for your head and probably ours after that!
Ford, Chevy or Dodge, either way, Adam is a car guy to the bone. Isn't that what it is all about? Taking a car, making it perform better that stock, and enjoying it? And for the 1993 Cobra? Well, it will stay in our showroom for a little while and probably find its way into someone’s garage who can appreciate the car and what it means to the Mustang Heritage. Maybe it turned out for the best after all!
