87-93 Fox Mustang Door Panel Removal & Installation

Share |

While removing the Door Panels on your 87-88-89-90-91-92-93 Fox Mustang GT or LX is a fairly straightforward process, it may seem a bit daunting to the uninitiated.  At some point in time, all Fox Mustang owners will be faced with removing their Door Panels to replace Door Lock Actuators, Power Window Motors, or even to just hang a new set of Door Panels to finish off that fresh Interior Resto.  Follow along as I remove the Door Panels from my 93 Mustang LX, Project Red, White, & Puke.

Fox Mustang Door Lock Actuator Install

Start by taking a phillips head screwdriver & removing the Mirror Hole Cover.

Next, remove the Door Handle Bezel..........

Then remove the front & rear screws from the Door Arm Rest.

Grab a small flat blade screwdriver & remove the two Door Armrest Hole Plugs.

Using a 10mm nut driver or equivalent, remove the two Door Armrest Bolts & then lift the Door Armrest from the Door Panel.

With the Door Armrest loose, remove the two screws that retain the Power Door Lock & Power Window Switch panel to the armrest & let the Switch Panel hang free.

Next, grab your Door Panel Removal Tool & start releasing the Door Panel Push Pins, or Door Panel Clips as some call them.

With all the Push Pins released, lift the Door Panel up & pull it away from the Door.  You are now free to move about the Door cavity replacing Door Lock Actuators, Window Motors, Outer Door Handles, or even just hanging a new set of Door Panels.  While you're in there, don't forget to replace those Door Panel Vapor Barriers & Door Panel Sound Deadeners as well!

For installation, simply reverse the removal proceedure.  For a Manual Window Equipped Mustang, the only added step is to remove the Window Crank Handle.

andrewholt - If yo have verified with a volt meter that there is proper power at the connector during application of the switch & the motor still doesn't work, then the motor is definately dead.  The shaking glass on the RH side is likely a compound problem.  After many years of service the felt wears off of the run channel weatherstrip & the glass is contacting bare rubber which will eventually wear on the window guide bushings due to the extra load.  New run channel weatherstrip & window guide bushings will get you back on the straight & narrow!

tom - typically the window guide bushings or the lower plastic mount for the window guide rod are the cause of crooked/floppy Fox Mustang Convertible 1/4 windows, with the lower mount being the most common culprit.  We are working very hard to get these reproduced, but have thusfar been plauged by supplier issues.  As soon as they do become available, we will post them up!

Sup Jmac,

Do you guys have any completely assembled panels without the map pockets?  I hate those things.  I mean, come on, who uses a paper map nowadays?!!!?

Hi

I'm converting from manual locks and windows to power. Before I purchase the new door panels, I must ask is this possible without having to change my fuse panel? No one out here seems to be able to answer this.

thx

Cobra 90 - you will not have to change your fuse block or dash harness.  All you'll need is the door harnesses & all the associated mechanicals & you're good to go!

I bought a set of black basic door panels from LRS. They did not come with instructions on how to merge the old panel (inner metal) etc. with the new. I am not sure where I need to rivet and if the some of the old foam is to be retained.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Why doesn't someone make molded plastic map pockets for 90-93 mustang doors, to replace the vinyl elastic stretch ones?  Looks like molded plastic ones could be made to fit where the elastic strech pockets are located.  That'd be much better.

Where can I find the retaining clips to hold the right and left side arm rests to the metal door frame?  The top one is the one I need.  It seems to be a larger clip than the bottom clip.

Thanks

Blinky - It almost sounds like your Window Motor Torque Pins are getting crunchy.

Jim - Tool costs & ultimately final retail price are the two contributing factors that have kept that form coming forward.  Luckily we do have new stock type replacements for the here & now!

Dilrod - I'm assuming you have an 87-93 Mustang.  Take a look here for the clips & bolts!
