My New Project: 1991 Fox Body Mustang 5.0L Coupe

Share |

I've had an itch for another coupe and when I set eyes on this car, I had to have it. No squeaks, no rattles, and a great interior and exterior. Just about everything I have ever dreamed of in a coupe.  That being said, as with any fox body, there's a little "to do" list for it. My goal is to make this a show car, and its darn close, but with the selection of a few of our parts, she will be show ready before I know it. Doing my quick once over, I have determined she needs the typical stuff. Here's the beginners list I have compiled for it that's the usual on one of these cars:

Door to body weatherstripping: LRS-20708A-K

Black metal door handles with rivets: LRS-22404K  Mine are not broken yet, but it's cheap insurance and you can't beat the price.

Door handle bezels LRS-22634K

The car has its original radio in it which works great, but I want it to stay that way. In an attempt to keep it from quitting or wearing out, I am installing an aftermarket cd player. Our radio installation kit LRS-04371KIT makes this about as easy as it gets.

The cars stock floor mats are long gone, so our ACC embroidered mats are a nice touch and hold up well. I decided to go with the ACC 5.0 logo floormats in titanium gray part # ACC-7993TTG-219

The typical armrest pads are tired, so LRS-24141C-K gets these back to being right. Lee did a write-up on how to install these here and it makes the install a heck of alot easier. Here's the link: http://www.mylrs.com/forums/p/338/1025.aspx#1025

Lastly, the clutch and brake pedal pads are MIA. Our part LRS-2457A is the pad required for both pedals, and not only does it look a ton better, it's actually much safer now. No more worries about your foot sliding off the pedal.

I'm sure I will dig up some more parts to add to the "to do" list, and I will add those to this as need be, but for now, this seems to be an easy  budget minded project I can knock out in a weekend. Finding one that's as close to original as this one is harder and harder to find. Nathan took some pictures and quick video of it. She runs pretty good!

Looks good, Karson! The Titanium interior was my favorite part of my old car so I know you'll like it.

She sure is perty!  One of the best I've seen in a while.  I've seen fox bodies modified in every form or fashion, but I still love the look of a clean and mostly stock 91-93 coupe with pony wheels.  Hopefully we'll see more enthusiasts restoring them back to original as time goes on.  Coupes make great race cars and hot rods, but it's refreshing to see a survivor.

Riding in this car made me seriously miss my old coupe. Sure it was junky, but it ran like a beast!

I actually did some trading to get this car so I didnt really pay anything for it. But figuring the investment I had in the other cars, it comes out to about 6500-7k'ish. $6500 is a good deal for a clean unmolested original fox so I'd say you did well. These cars are going up and up in value.

wow when i see your car, its like lookin in the mirror. if you get the chance, take a look on your driver door and check the extrior trim code, if its an x code, (like mine) then you have a rare car my friend. mine has factory black accents with red trim. also same interior but i opted for black carpet. looks gorgeous man.

The suspension is pretty well stock except for Eibach springs. Im trying to make the car look pretty well stock but these springs give it just the right amount of drop.

Russell, I took a look at my tag and it does have the X code on the tag. If you dont mind me asking, what makes that rare?

man,why could i find a gem like that rather then the rust box i bought?

Russell said:

the x code, by ford factory specs, states that it has black exterior trim With factory red tape along the inner lines of the accents. looks like yours has been removed but still it is a rare exterior trim.

Hey Sean, That car had a Steeda Tri-ax in it, our part number ST-5557351 . Believe it or not, the white pool ball is what helped make that shifter click like that. When I put the leather knob on it after this video was done, the noise was gone.
