Our 1987-93 Mustang console armrest delete is designed to do exactly as its name implies, replace your bulky/heavy/worn console armrest with a lightweight plastic trim panel. There are several reasons that you might want to install the delete panel, the first is that your factory armrest has deteriorated over the years but instead of buying all the parts needed to get it back up to par you just delete it and forget it. Another reason would be so save weight, if you've never taken on out of a Mustang you might be surprised to find out that the armrest is alarmingly heavy!
Here are the console armrest delete panels on our website.

1987-93 Mustang Console Armrest Delete Panel - Gray - $29.99
Here you can see the factory console armrest. This one is in really good shape, which is more than I can say for a lot that I have seen.

Here is the delete panel, with the cut out in the back to retain your factory rear ashtray.

These are the tools that I used for the entire installation. A knife and an 8mm deep well socket or a regular socket with an extension. In hindsight a knife probably wasn't the best choice, you should probably use a flat head screwdriver.

Use the knife or flat head screwdriver to remove to the 2 console access plugs on either side of the console.

Once removed you will have access to the 2 8mm bolts that hold on the armrest.

Once the bolts are out you can lift the armrest away from the console. The armrest assembly was surprisingly heavy!! I was struggling to hold it in place while I took this picture... LOL.. I'm weak.

Here you can see that the whole thing weighs in at 6.7 pounds!!

Here is the delete panel which weighs in at only 0.3 pounds!!! Talk about a weight savings.

Now you need to remove the rear ashtray from the original armrest. It is held in by plastic clips so be careful when you pop it out.

Once you pop the clips out the ashtray will slide right out.

Now you can just pop it into the delete panel.

You can see here that the factory tabs have been cut off of the original armrest by the previous owner. From the factory there were clips attached to these tabs which would be transferred to the delete panel. But since they were missing I just let gravity do its job. Jmac says that he uses shifter bezel clips when this occurs.

This is what the tabs should look like.

Here you can see how they slide into the console to hold it in place.

Plastic clips hold down the rear.

Here is the finished product.

Here you can see how it looks when paired with our Plug 'n Chug drink holder!

There you have it! With the console armrest delete panel you get a much cleaner appearance, and a weight savings of almost 7 pounds for less than 30 bucks and about 15 minutes of work.
