SC Wheels on a Fox Body

Share |

Eddie Garcia sent us some pictures today of his Mustang with a new SC wheel and tire kit installed. I have seen the SC wheel kit installed on a few cars but have never been particularly crazy about them. But I changed my mind when I saw them on Eddie's car, the silver with polished lip look awesome with the red paint, and the deep dish rears fill the wheel well perfectly IMO.

Check out the wheel pit for our full lineup of SC style wheels!

Eddie says that the car will be featured in Mustang Enthusiast Magazine in the next few months.

Car looks great Eddie! Thanks for sending the pics.

Here is a before shot.

If you want to see your car on our site, email your pics to jeff.oliver@latemodelrestoration.com or nathan.birkes@latemodelrestoration.com.

It's always fun and challenging to take an old Mustang and bring it to it's potential. Wow, can you believe that "before" shot?... YIKES.

With the new SC wheels, I have all my Mustang friends drooling over the car now. And the fit was perfect.

Thanks LRS!!

@Justin Shieck - I sent Eddie an email about your questions.

Sorry it took so long to answer the questions. Here goes...

I went with 17x9 front and 17,10 rear SC Style wheels.

255/40/17 front and 275/40/17 rear, Sumitomo tires.

The fit is "nearly perfect". The stretch on the rear tire to fit the 10" rim is perfect and creates a great road racer look. If you go with a larger tire you can make it fit but then you get a  dragster look (not what I was going for).

There is very little rub since I have a 91 GT (larger wheel openings) but there is a littlt. With minor fender roll and pounding in the inner wheel well, there is a great fit. If you take the car on a road track day, you will soon discover where any left over rubbbing spots are.

I have fixed up a lot of cars in my day because I just love cars, especially Mustangs. Do your homework before you buy anything and ask lots of questions, that's my motto.

Thanks for the nice comments. I hope you all buy wheels from LRS. They were great and I love the quality I got.

@zak - Here is what jmac recommends for 10.5's, I assume it's pretty much the same for 10's.

roll outer fender lip

take a hammer & clearance the inner fender well

remove your quad shocks

You may also have to adjust your exhaust to gain clearance between the tailpipe & the tire.

That looks amazing!!!

How did he get the paint to look like that???

Did he use some compounds and polishes like meguiars 105/80,etc? Or did he get a paint job?

I have a red GT just like that, but i cannot get my paint to shine like that! It comes close, but its not as good.

As far as fitment in the rear is concerned, everything that Nate said to do is right on. It seems like a lot but it's really pretty cheap and easy... and well worth it.

As for the paint, my shoulders freekin hurt for days after rubbing it out, by hand, with Turtle Wax rubbing compund. Then I waxed it with Meguiars. I hit it with more wax and occasional rubbing compound as needed. It's all original paint with 98k miles. The oxidation will come back so you have to repeat as needed. The trim areas around the doors and windows were painted, by me, with just one can of "trim paint"...$5.00 Make sure you clean the surface with a pre paint spongey cloth, works wonders.

You know, I have a very rare 600 hp Saleen S351-R with low miles, sitting in my garage, but I still love looking at the fox body. With the SC wheels and a moderate drop, it just looks sweet.

Suspension, Jamex springs and shocks, 1-3/4" drop.

I have a 92 coupe with 96 Cobra brakes and spindles up front with a 97 GT 8.8 in the rear. I would like to run FR500's 17x9 in the front with a 255/40/17 and 17x10.5 in the rear with a 315/35/17 in the rear. Will this work?

@Dwarren - You will have to remove your quad shocks in the rear and clearance the fender but from what you describe you should be able to get them to fit with these modifications.

where did you purchase the wheels for the red gt. i am wanting the same look and fit on my black gt. and they are 9 on the front and 10 on the back. why is it that some of the 10's stick out in the the rear and others are flush with the car like on the red gt in the pic. that is what is making me hesitant about 10's in the back.

About nate

My name is Nathan and I am a C# developer by trade. My favorite movies are A Clockwork Orange and Fight Club, my favorite TV shows are Arrested Development and The Office. I also enjoy motocross and supercross. I am happily married and have two little girls. I became an auto enthusiast at age 16 when I purchased a 1988 GMC C1500 long bed, it was two-tone blue and ugly as sin. But it had a 350 and I flogged on it regularly. It's been all down hill from there. My current project is an 89 Chevy C1500 short bed.
