87-93 Mustang Quarter Windows For Hatchback Have Returned!

Share |

That's right sports fans, after a long absence the reproduction 87-93 Mustang quarter windows for hatchback have made their way back to the market.

The new run of quarter windows comes from the same company as the first, but from a different manufacturing plant.  ALL of the original problems were addressed & corrected & these new windows are top notch.  Like the first reproductions, these windows do not have the MUSTANG lettering in the glass.  Legalities & cost were the two main dictating factors in omitting the lettering.

The glass used is tempered glass that is DOT approved for use on US roadways.

Just like the Ford original windows, the rubber trim & back are bonded to the glass & are not replaceable separately.

As you can see, the windows curvature will match the curvature of the Mustangs body.  The previous production run was almost flat.

Here you can see that the stud mounting point is solid.  The defective units in the previous run had visible air pockets around the stud that caused the stud to pull out when pressure was applied.

All in all the new windows are a great reproduction & even better, they are ready to ship.  Speaking of shipping, the windows qualify for our $14.99 flat rate shipping via UPS ground to the contiguous 48 states! The hatch quarter windows carry part # LRS-29710A-K & retail for $349.99

Now that all you hatch owners are giddy as schoolgirls & racing out to place your orders, you coupe owners are left asking, "When are we gonna get some love?".  Well the answer is that we don't know.  The coupe windows are on the project list, but it may take some time to get them to market.  Reproducing parts, especially ones with complex tooling like these windows take, is a very costly undertaking and requires extensive planning.  All I can say is keep an eye on our site as we'll have them (the coupe windows) as soon as they are available.

so, are you saying these won't fit an '83?

why does it seem like the original real fox bodies seem to get shunted? just curious.

Yes 87-93 quarter windows will fit in a 83 but the 83 body is missing some of the front mounting spots. I have them in mine (stock not these new ones). I need to weld some tabs onto the body to be able to use them so I can get a leak free window.

Justin is correct, they will fit if you want to update your car to 87-93 looks, but some fabrication is needed for the front mounting points.  The reason for the push on the 87-93 quarter window is because the molded rubber trim goes bad.  79-86 doesn't have that problem.

I had switched my 86 to newer quarter windows and for the front mounts, I took the mounting brackets for the older window and flipped them around and mounted them at the front of the new ones, a little black silicone and no leaks...just my two cents.

Why don't they offer a package with all the window molding? Their descriptions are confusing upper, lower, inner, outer, left, right... and 'm not sure if they are all available? On my car they all need replacement.

Hi JMAC,

It is too bad there isn't a less expensive option for covering those  quarter windows.

Maybe a plastic covering to improve the appearance .

Do you have anything like that?

THIS IS GREAT!.    i will buy some as soon as money allows!

now you guys need to manufacture some interior parts : black dash's, black interior 1/4 hatch plastics. and trunk plastic's.    you could make some coin selling them too. i think it would be worth it.

Any word on the Coupe Glass? Does anyone rebuild them? Or am I remembering incorrectly?

Thanks.

jsprek01, coupe glass won't be available in the near future as far as we've been told.  Maybe withinn the next couple of years.  Any body shop will be able to "refurbish" your existing glass if they're not too far gone.

Is there some reason WHY we can't correct the errors of Ford and actually make a window with replaceable trim???

February 7, 2009 1:40 AM

jmac said:

Jon, that is a good question, & believe me it has been posed to various manufacturers.  That being said, we ended up with the same type of production piece.  There must be some reasoning behind the engineers decision to keep it as it was or I'm sure we would have been offered a different piece.

Seriously guys, get on the coupe windows.  Our only option right now is to either attempt to find decent ones at the junkyard which is next to impossible.  Or find some new old stock ones that usually run around $900.00, which is just unacceptable for most of us.  I can name at least 20 people, not including myself that would buy them in a heartbeat for $350.  Right now its the curse of owning a coupe.

Is there anywhere to find the sail panel on the 86 GT?  The piece is broken may not be repairable even with epoxy.

jmac said:

Tim, The 79-86 sail panels are not available new at this time.  If you are unable to find any used ones localy, check with Prestige Mustang.

Is the rubber any better on these windows than the Ford ones?  Or will they be deteriorating badly in a few years?

November 3, 2009 3:58 PM

jmac said:

JimmyJam - Can't say if it's better or not, but the manufaturer used the same rubber composition as the originals.  Even the factory ones did not deteriorate after only a few years, they had about a 10 year service life on Mustangs that did nothing but sit outside.  If your Mustang is garaged, then the rubber trim life will be significantly extended.

Can anyone who has bought these comment on them?  Considering picking up a set and they look great but wanted some buyer feedback.  Also, any comments on the best or required locations for the butyl tap?
