2010 Mustang: Exterior

Share |

As many of you have known for some time now, Ford is getting ready to release a redesign of for the 05-09 Mustangs, better known as the S197. This platform is one that I do hold dear to myself since I own a 2008 GT. If you have been keeping up with this redesign, Ford has been tempting us with weekly updates showing off small sections of the car each week.... talk about a tease!!! Well the time is here Ford finally gave us the pictures as promised. Here is some of the information that I have found so far. I'll give my personal opinions on some of the new changes; however, I would love to hear some feedback from you all.

In this Blog I will cover the exterior: I will be following up with interior and engine options.

Front Bumper:

This is one of the most obvious parts of the redesign. The headlights are now smaller and appear to have the turn signals built into to headlights. The “pillars” of the grille are now painted to match the grille; thus, giving the car a “blacked-out” grill appearance. The lower grill is widened; probably to allow more air in. The GT still keeps the fog lights in the the upper grille. You will also notice the mirrors now have a painted upper section; these are often a popular addition to a lot of S197 Mustangs. Overall, the car is given a more modern look; in my opinion it looks as though Ford kept a lot of the sharper look of the Giugiaro Mustang

Hood:

Now this is a section of the car that I definitely like! The raised cowl in the center section is a nice addition to this car. It definitely helps bring out the sharp edges on the car. Notice: No more antenna on the fender!!! That is a first in Mustang history I believe.

Rear Bumper and Spoiler:

The obvious: the tail lights have been reshaped and and appear to be smaller. The tail lights are also LED and do go off in sequential order.... just like the CDC sequential tail light kits! The bumper has a black section between the tailpipes (similar to the California Package, GT-500 & Shelby GT s). The spoiler looks alot like the GT-500 spoiler. This is another great addition to the car (since I want that spoiler on my 08 ). You may also notice the hole in the spoiler... no thats not a keyhole.... that would be one of Ford's new options: reverse camera. Yup, thats right now you can see those garbage cans in the end of the driveway! They also make some slight changes to the rear badage aka fake gas cap.

New Wheels:

Ford gave the new pony some new shoe options as well. I must say that are much better than the 05 wheels when they first came out. The wheel vary in sizes from 17"-19".

I like the wheel options, especially the one in the last picture. Not sure about the front end, I may have to see it in person before I decide. I really like the side view of the new Mustang, the rear quarter panels look great! The rear of the car definately does not do it for me and looks like an import, to me the taillights looked fine the way they were. I like the retro color options as well like the Grabber blue and the metallic gold.

I like it.

After looking at the '05 body style for the past 5-6 years, this is a welcome change in my book.

It's nice to see the Mustang get a facelift.

I like it...the slight humps in the rear are very cool and 67-68 fast back'ish

The interior looks alot nicer, and I really like the squared A/C vents in the center now instead of all round ones. Looks real clean.

My only 2 suggestions....give us some factory 20's and a 400hp 5.0L 3V!!!

I think the V6 models have a better looking front bumper, but overall I like the redesign.

Being the "old" guy here... I have to say... the main reason that I liked the 05-09 is because it has a great resemblance to the older Mustangs. I don't see it as much on the 2010. I think the back of the car looks like 80% of all the other cars out there. I understand they are trying to "change" the look... but I think they had a great look before. I think they just needed to improve on what they had...some ideas???? Make a true Fastback.... put some wider tires on the car....please give the interior more of a muscle car look and feel. And I have to agree with joliver..... MORE POWER..RRRRR

The way the rear bumper sticks out at the bottom makes it look like an Infiniti G35.

I like the front end better, don't really like the rear. Overall it looks better than the 05-09.

The horsepower's coming.  LOTS of rumors were flying at SEMA about a 5.0 engine, as well as hints to the new 6.2 that will come out in the Raptor truck next year.

I'm confident that Ford will do something.  It's gonna smell like 1994 all over again if the Mustang's base V8 is so much lower than the Camaro's 6.2 and the Challenger's 5.7.  Rumor is that the Camaro is going to end up with the ZR1 motor at some point, so it's looking like the 6.2 is not the Camaro's higher-horsepower V8.

I hope the new GT ends up with the 6.2 prototype engine that's in the Raptor in 2011 or 12.  There was a Raptor at SEMA that was making a claimed 500 horsepower with just intake and exhaust mods, and tuning.

I think this car looks rather timid for a mustang after hearing about all of the changes they were supposed to do.

on the other hand, i can't wait until some of the aftermarket guys get ahold of it, there looks like there is an awesome base.  what happened to the front end? i think Ford just fell short in the design group.

I have and always will be a Mustang fanatic! My first car was a V6 Mustang after putting myself through college and LOTS of saving.... I recently purchased a 2008 Mustang GT. Most of my Mustang experience lies in the modular motors. My brother and I have built and swapped multiple mod motors in the past. We have perfected the SN95 V6 motor swaps!! LOL
