08-09 Dodge Challenger Diablo Sport Predator Tuner Install

Share |

So you're getting a little bored with the stock performance of your 08-09 Challenger SRT8, R/T, or SE.  After searching the internet & perusing our site you've decided that a Tuner (Programmer) is on the short list of "to do" items.  We felt the same way, so we added a Diablo Sport Predator Tuner to our 6.1L 08 Challenger SRT8 .  The part # for the Diablo Pedator Tuner we used is DST-U7135 & it works on the following 5.7L HEMI or 6.1L HEMI equpped Dodge vehicles:

05-06-07-08 Chrysler 300C, 06-07-08 Dodge Charger, 05-06-07-08 Dodge Magnum, 06-07-08 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, 08-09 Dodge Challenger SRT8, & 09 Dodge Challenger R/T

If you have an 09 Challenger SE, use Diablo Predator Tuner part # DST-U7136

Loading the tune is super simple, so I won't bore you with the details.  We went for the gusto & loaded the 93 octane tune & modified a few of the parameters such as Autostick** function, rev & speed limits, & tire size.  All you have to do is find the DLC (Data Link Connector), plug in the Predator Tuner & folow the instructions.

Just a side note, one of the first things the Diablo Predator Tuner will ask you to do is turn the key to the on (run) position.  My inital reaction was, "There is no freakin' key!  How does this work?"  The answer is quite simple.  Without pressing on the brake pedal, push the start button twice & it will set the ignition to the on position.  To set the ignition to the off position, press the start button one more time.  Pretty nifty!

After we loaded the tune, it was time for a test drive!  After we put the wheels on our Challenger, you could definately feel the decrease in performance from stock.  After loading the tune the Challenger had its pep back!  We used the Challenger's built in 1/4 mile performance meter along with an iPhone to measure the performance.  The previous best for our Challenger was a 14.02 standing 1/4.  With heavier wheels & in the heat of the day the Challenger responded with a 13.95!  The car was much more fun to drive & had a much imporoved shift feel.

Overall, we feel that the DiabloSport Predator is a worthy mod & should be one of the first you perform!

**The stock Autostick will still automatically shift up to the next gear at a ceratin RPM.  The Diablo Predator Tuner will tune that out & allow you to manually hold whatever gear you desire.  When you elect to modify the tune, under the Transmission header there will be an Autostick option.  Under that optin you will see Mode1, Mode 2, & Mode3.  These Modes will allow for full manual shifting with the Autostick when in the manual select mode.  Try Mode1 first.  If the car still automatically shifts to the next highest gear when in manual select, try Mode2.  If Mode2 doesn't work, try Mode3.  One of the 3 will work for your Challenger!

I was wondering how you would turn the car to the "on" position. Mystery solved.

As of right now, DiabloSport has not released the tunes for 2009 models.  They have promised us that they will have the updated tunes available by the 1st of February.

All of this hype is over .07 sec better 1/4 mile, really? seems like a waste!

Will this void my factory warranty? I have heard of similar devices damaging the computer is this possible? What would you estimate your hp gain was? The 1/4 mile decrease is a little misleading since you went to a bigger tire as some have missed by saying .07 not much. They should have seen how much time you lost with the new tires, before the retune?

williams rt - A Tuner will not harm your computer.  As far as the warranty issue, it really just depends on the dealer, some are mod friendly & some arent.  Rule of thumb is to return to stock before taking the car in for any warranty repair.

In a perfect world we would have tested the car with the old wheels, but unfortunately that was not the way the chips fell.  With limited time & adding parts as soon as they become available the order of things kind of got out of whack.

so the this tuner will return the computer to stock also? what kind of actual hp gains can be seen with the all out tune? 93 octane tune I guess? Also I was comenting on how the previous poster did not realize it was actually more than a .07 gain because you had added the larger tires before you tuned it. thanks

williams rt - It sure will!  When you load the new tune the tuner saves the stock programming so you can return to stock at any time.  The tuner has 4 tune options - 91 or 93 octane withoit cold air kit, 91 or 93 octane with cold air kit.  The tune gives you more aggressive timing & fuel curves to boost performance.  Of course it also allows you many other options like correcting for tire size or rear gear changes.  As far as actual power gain is concerned, we estimate that it was worth about 10 horsepower to the wheels on our car.  Because we also changed gears & tire size, & added a cold air kit, we definately took advantage of all it had to offer!

Thanks for the info. I ordered it and the cold air kit you used. My R/T has the 5.7 hemi, 6 speed and 3.92 gear. The rev limiter at 5800 is really holding the car back, so I hope to improve on that. I am looking for something to help with the wheel hop? With the type of rearend I do not know what is available? I also down loaded the Iphone dyno app, it is great! Thanks again

Well I added the cold air kit and the 93 octane diablo tuner. after several passes it gained me .30 in the 1/4 mile, .16 in the 1/8 mile and .14 in the 0-60. I increased the rev limiter to 6300 rpms from 5800 this seem to help allot. For under 600.00 a 3/10s off of my 1/4 mile time is money well spent. The car drives smoother and pulls through all the rpm range smoothly.

williams rt - I'm not real sure on the wheel hop issue.  We bolted on a set of Nitto drag radials & they helped greatly.  Glad to hear about your success with the tuner & cold air kit!

Are the 2009 Challanger 5.7 upgrade available yet? When your talking about 91 to 93 setting is that a setting for the grade of gas? with this hand held device, do you take this off ater each adjustment that you make ao does it sort of hang in there?

Sorry about the less then bright questions,

Thanks, B. West

The 2009 5.7 tuners are available for your car.  The part number is DST-U7135 and is located on the web here.

www.latemodelrestoration.com/iwwida.pvx

The 91-93 settings are referring to the different octane tunes that are loaded into the tuner.  When you finish installing the tune into the car, the tuner itself is removed from the dataport but the tune stays in the computer.  It will remain there until you change the tune to a different one or until you put it back to stock.  As for a dealer, we are an authorized Diablosport Dealer and you can purchase this product online at the link posted above.
