Drag Radials

Share |

I have just about burned thru my first set of drag radials in just over 1000 miles. It was a pair of BFG 295/35/18 drag radials and they were a decent tire and hooked very well but they just didn't last very long. The car is making almost 600 hp but I took it easy on the tires and never once took it to the track so I would have expected the tires to last longer. I think for the next set I am going to have to decide what I really want from a tire. I can get longer life with a Nitto but they may not hook as well or I can get better traction with maybe a MT but then I'll be replacing my tires again after 1000 miles. Since the car isn't a daily driver i'm leaning towards the MT's since i've heard nothing but good things about their traction.

I'm thinking you'd get better use out of the tires if you took the car to a track.

While a drag radial maybe DOT approved, it isn't meant to travel more than 1,320 feet at a time, not including the obligatory burn out of course. For a few bucks you can buy a battery impact gun, small jack, tire covers and carry those low mileage beautys to the track and put them to use where they belong. I agree with your choice of the MT's, either their drag radials or their ET Streets will break a T-5 owners heart in a split second.

the nitto drag radial is the best if are driving on them every day.  mine lasted for about 12000 miles.  car ran 11.50's every other weekend with them.
