Well, as some of you know I am in the middle of a very in depth car build.
I have stripped an 86 LX Coupe down to a shell to make it new again. Whenever someone takes on a project like this, one thing that constantly goes through your mind is "get it done fast and cheap" There are benefits to being frugal in projects but if done in crucial areas it can also send the project down the tubes. For example when I have known people in the past that will drop several grand in a motor they are putting in a car and then turn around and buy 3 used tires that the tread doesn't match so they can get it on the road. I'm not saying you can't throw it to gether to go down te road and back but when you do that for a permanant fix, something has got to give.
My situation is that I'm in the middle of building my engine and I have a perfectly good stock rotating assembly that I can throw together to get the thing running. The only problem with that is I plan on spraying on this motor.......a lot.........and I'm almost positive the stock pistons and rods won't cut it. I am wanting to put forged internals in it that I know will survive the abuse that will come its way. The only down side to this is that it will prolong the project due to cash the cash flow. The way I figure it is build it right the first time and take a little longer rather than build it quickly 2 times.
What about you are there ways that you've cut corners and it come to bite you in the butt later. Or are you one of those fellows with Luck on their side that can slap something together with junkyard parts and it last a lifetime?
