The day I got hooked

Share |

I still remember the day... My uncle picked me up from elementary school in his brand new black convertible 89 GT Mustang. That was it, from there I was absolutely hooked. I always had a love for cars and did not have a specific car that I favored over other... until that day. I felt like I was the coolest guy at school sitting shotgun in that convertible GT.

My uncle bought the car shortly after graduating from Texas A&M Engineering school. After seeing him do it, I knew I had to set the proper course of action. I worked every summer from late junior high through early high school to get my first Mustang. It was a 1996 Mustang V6. Of course I wanted a V8 but I knew it wouldn't happen with the money I was making. I finished high school and moved on to college. During this time frame the 96 was passed down to my brother and I got a 4cyl Acura to get me through college. Well I just graduated from college and purchased my new Mustang GT. The day I drove it off the lot made me truly remember that feeling I had when I was riding in my uncle's 89 GT.

So I want to hear... what was your first experience with a car/Mustang that got you hooked?

Junior year of highschool...I was going to sell my Blazer to get a sports car for my senior year and test drove some camaro Z28's and didnt like how they drove. Sat way down and they were rattle traps. Then I test drove a certain white 95 GT and they let me have it for weekend! I cruised that dude all over town and jammed out to a Biggie Smalls tape on the Mach460 sound system and from then on I was hooked, bought the car that week and it became my first Mustang.

I thought that the 96 was so sweet because my Mach460 had a tape player and a seperate cd player.

My favorite song at the time was "Ice Ice Baby" when he said "rolling in my 5.0"  That was it.  Then my Dad bought a 95GT in 96 with 35,000 on it, so we got it cheap.  In 2002, it only had 50K so we always babied it.  So I knew that was the car I wanted.  When I was 16 in 98 I got a 95GT.  Since then I have built 11 Mustangs, and I will keep building them for a while.

The day I got hooked.  Hum . . .  I was in my early teens when my parents purchased a used 1966 Mustang convertable.  What a sweet car.  Even though I was to young to drive it, what a cool car to be seen in.  It turned heads wherever we went.  That car is long since gone, but the love affair with Mustangs never ended.  To this day, I've had (or still have) two 1966 Mustangs, a 2001 Mustang, and a 1988 Mustang (the most recent purchase).  There are those that think the house looks like a car lot sometimes.  LOL.  Still hooked and probably always will be.

I was 12 when I got hooked. My stepdad , mom, and I were going to the airport. He was driving his new 85 Gt. Some jerk wanted to race him and he did not want to because we were in the car. The guy in the Camaro swirved at us becuase he (my stepdad) did not want to race. That got the better of my stepdad's judgement, it was on. I remember him down shifting and, the sound of the four barrel kicking in and, the power pushing me back in the seat. I was scared and excited at the same time. He always talked about how fast his car was but I never knew until then. He had some mods on it back then to make it breath good. I was scared but excited at the same time. He still has the car today.

Man, the day I got hooked is a day that I will always remember. I was about fifteen and one of my older buddies who could drive brought me down to moroso (drag strip, for those who don't know). This beautiful 01' black with dark blue pin strips mustang pulled out into the left lane. The roaring of his engine and spinning his tires gave me constant chills and at that point, I knew I had to get one. It was around a month or so after graduation, I retired my white E150 (Yes, a white stalker van) and got my very own mustang. It's a hunter green 97' GT, but, unforntantly thats when my life became a living walking nightmare. I had the car for a total of five months and I would say I was only able to drive it for about six days out of those five months. The car was so abused, I later discovered. I believe it was taken to moroso and hammered! It had a loud tapping sound,  almost like a hammer hitting a rather large nail. I figured it was carbon buildup, or a sticky lifter. I used many cleaning products, and I had the oil changed 3 times within a week. But the tapping sound only got louder. Apparently the engine was jacked up on STP to hide the rod breaks So I was forced to buy a new engine. The 97' GT engine was gutted and replaced by a 04' GT engine. I figured since I replaced the engine, why stop? I cant stop, as money comes in I just get all these ideas, look around online (LRS) for new parts I want to upgrade or replace. I'm so hooked into my mustang

About jjimenez

I have and always will be a Mustang fanatic! My first car was a V6 Mustang after putting myself through college and LOTS of saving.... I recently purchased a 2008 Mustang GT. Most of my Mustang experience lies in the modular motors. I have built and swapped multiple mod motors in the past.
