Need better gas milage from your stang????

Share |

Well with the gas prices going up more and more everyday, driving a mustang can get expensive quick. So I started to look into way to get better gas mileage, I did a review of tuners and other items said to save gas and everything. I also looked into changing the air intake system and doing a basic tune up. This was probably one of the best decisions I have made it a long time. Now remember my car is a 2003 Mustang GT with 79,XXX on the clock.

I picked up one of our new Darkforce Technology Cold Air Kits (Part Number: LRS-9659CA9) which only cost $99, and the quality of the part is awesome. The tubing has a very nice finish and all of the hardware is top quality stuff. Along with that I purchased some new spark plugs and other odds and ends for the tune up. A total costing about $150

The air intake went on it about 20 - 25 minutes and was very well fitting and looks awesome under the hood, I also swapped the spark plugs and discovered someone had put platinum plugs in the motor.....not a good idea. I went back with the factory Motorcraft Spark Plugs (Part Number: AWSF32P).  But anyways before all of this I was getting about 230 miles to about 14 gallons of gas running regular unleaded, which comes out to almost 16.5 miles to the gallon. Now after the air intake and the sparkplugs I get about 260-270 to the 14 gallons which comes out to almost 19 miles per gallon. It doesn't seem like much but it can definitely help save a little cash at the gas pumps.

So for a little money now you can save a lot down the road.

I constantly get 23-25 MPG in my 97 V8 with 5-speed which was roughly what I got with my old 98 V6/auto.  What gives?  How are you driving that thing? I have 100k on my V8 motor and drive with a leadfoot and go drag racing every other Wednesday.  I added a CAI and it had dual Flowmasters and new plugs and wires.  Miles stayed the same.  I drive 80% freeway. Its parked for the winter - winter in Ohio will rust out a car in no time if one doesn't crash it (RIP my old 98 V6 stang).

Thats one of the nice things about having a good running engine. I have an 04 Mach and I get 26-27 mph on long trips. Now stomp on the go peddle and it goes down, but it will still blow the dooors off an import anyday. Thats a good engine and an efficent design. Oh an my mach is a stick.

and then there's mine... bored, stroked, heads, cam, gears, bigger everything and my mileage reminds me of a certain  built up '65 GTO I had in the '60's; 10 mpg?

Priceless!
