Displacement Challenged

With gas prices on the rise, having a vehicle with better gas mileage can always be a great benefit.   When a vehicle has better gas mileage, typically this means the vehicle with suffer from lack of horsepower and/or torque.   Although car companies are making great strides in improving gas mileage all while retaining performance, the easiest way to get better gas mileage is to use a smaller engine.  Ford offers the new body style Mustang, the S197, in three different motor combinations.  These motor combinations range from 4.0L SOHC V6 all the way to the 5.4L DOHC supercharged V8; this also means the miles per gallon range from 17/24 MPG in the V6 to must pay gas guzzler tax in the GT500.  The MPG is not the only thing has a great range on the new Mustangs, the prices range from roughly $19,000 (V6) all the way to $40,000 plus (GT500).

There are many reasons to purchase the new 4.0L V6 mustang – good MPG, lower base prices, cheaper insurance..etc.  No matter what the reason is that you purchase the new Mustang V6, you still have one thing in common with all the Mustang V8 owners- you are part of the Mustang culture.  Being part of the Mustang culture often means bolting on some kind of dress up part,-wheels, billet parts, body dress-up parts and tint- or adding to the already great performing Mustang-suspension, air intake, exhaust or forced induction.   I cannot think of one person that I know that drives a Mustang that has not modded something on their car; it is just simply part of owning a Mustang.

The new 4.0L is the best performing V6 Mustang that Ford has produced.  With its 210hp and 240tq, it is actually not far off in horsepower numbers when compared to the 5.0L pushrod Fox body Mustangs.   To further help you out in the performance category a lot of companies are adding tons of new products to help out all you V6 owners.  Companies such as Shelby Performance Parts and Steeda are producing performance version based on the 4.0L V6.  Listed below are just a few examples of the directions these companies have gone in making better all around performing V6 Mustangs.

About jjimenez

I have and always will be a Mustang fanatic! My first car was a V6 Mustang after putting myself through college and LOTS of saving.... I recently purchased a 2008 Mustang GT. Most of my Mustang experience lies in the modular motors. I have built and swapped multiple mod motors in the past.
