Back to the future.....

The DMC 12 was deffinately a car ahead of its time and one of the most unique additions to the automotive market in its day. Yet its downfall (due to John DeLorean's drug charges, and the bankruptcy of the DMC motor company) came too early for the inspring design in my opinion and ultimately tarnished the nameplate. I have been in love with these stainless bodied clunkers ever since I can remember, seeing the first one in person when I was about 8 years old.

I would love to see the DeLorean name re-born into todays market with a new throw back design, updated with todays safety standards and ammeneites, stainless colored paint, gull wing style doors, and a rear engine chassis. The pic below is just a simple personal rendtition based off the shelby GT-R concept.

Your thoughts?

DeLorean

Cool concept. I remember my dad taking me to see and sit in one at the local Chrysler dealership when I was just a wee lad. Then when "Back to the Future" was released in 1985, I thought it was so cool and fast. (movies sure can make a pathetic V6 seem awesome) I also remember that there used to be one that ran around here that was painted red, and yes, it was a real DeLorean! Its hard to believe that with the aftermarket Lambo door craze (hopefully) almost over, that the old 1950's Mercedes gullwings really were trendsetters for easy access for the drivers in the Lemans races, not to stand out at the local hotspot.

There is a company that is making the Delorean's again from leftover parts. I think that they are in Houston.

The DeLorean name has a polarizing effect I think, so I'm not sure i'd like to see a new one.  The original cars had so many issues beyond the lack of power.

The original frames were made from thin steel and dipped in an epoxy to keep them from rusting.  Alas, the dipping process was too long making the epoxy thicker than it should have been.  Then the epoxy cracked allowing (and holding) water next to the frame.  One of the biggest upgrades on the remaining DMC's is a brand new stainless steel frame.
