Of the readily available mustangs.....
93 Cobra
Bring on the debate!
Can't go wrong with a 1979-81 or so orange or yellow Cobra Mustang. Not very fast but the colors and stripes remind of a Hot Wheel I used to have!

Here's what I'm talking about!
93 Cobra has all the criteria...
light weight, cheap parts, easy to work on, performs well in it's stock form, endless modification possibilities, looks great from the factory, reliable as hell, great value - appreciating in value yet still affordable (relative to other specialty cars) I can't think of any other mustang that meets all of the criteria
all others are either too big or heavy (71-73 and 03 cobra as well as 05-up) to expensive to modify (mod motors in general) still depreciating (anything newer than 94) too expensive to buy (anything older than 70), ugly (74-78), or underpowered (anything 74-84)
that makes my second choice the good ol' 85-93 HO cars.
Long live the fox body!!!!
Here is my biggest prblem with the 93 Cobra!!! They did not offer it in the right color. White with black interior!!! I guess I will have to work on a clone one of these days.
03-04 Cobra
The terminators are nice but they are heavier and have IRS, if you go with a Mach 1 you get the Live axle. it weighs less. the money you saved can go to buy a blower and other mods that would make the same power. I just like the interior/ nostalgia factor of the mach not to mention the shaker looks cool.
I agree with the IRS on the terminators. I also liked the overall look of the Bullitt when it comes to the whole interior/nostalgia.
Wow! tough call.... I agree with Scotty on this one the Mach 1 is nice, but so is the 03-04 Cobra. I have always like that 93 Cobra too!
It's all about the SVO.
I'm sorry but I think the new Mach 1 has got it.
Sorry Mach 1 still for me. The 5.0 was expensive to modify in the beginning too because there were not alot of aftermarket companies supporting them. Same way with the mod motor now. The will "and already have" gotten cheaper to modify. They "along with the desireable 5.0 cars" are holding their value pretty well. don't get me wrong I like fox body cars too but the choice is still the mach 1
No doubt, the 93 SVT Cobra was the pinnacle for the Fox body Mustangs, but lack of chassis stiffness and ABS are two strikes in my book...
93 Cobra gets my vote!
93 Cobra was the best FOX BODY ever, but I really believe that the Mach 1 is THE best overall Mustang. It will run good in a straight line and take some turns with minimal body roll. You can bolt on small parts and run with the big dawg...Yes I mean the 03-04 Cobra which is the biggest HP Mustang. The IRS and the insurance is not favorable to me. I LOVE THE MACH 1 !!!!!!
I would have to go the mach as well, 03 cobras are nice, but for the money the mach wins
I am still going to stick with the 93 Cobra. I think everyone lost the bang for the buck theory! Even though I would have liked a few more color options the car was inovative for its day and priced write.
uh oh folks looks like the Cobra and the Mach are running pretty close with 3 votes each. Mr. Lacina didn't technically vote for one but he did put a big negative on the Fox
It's a tossup between an 86 SVO and a 93 Cobra!
Since I own one of each, I really don't need to make a
decision other than which one to drive on which week-
end.... So, to make the most effect since I'm not a
Mach fan, I must vote for the 93 Cobra and make it
Teal.
93 Cobra!!!
PUSHROD, ...93 cobra gets my vote..even though for the time i wish the numbers were nastier, but its an amazing car with awesome capabilities
All of the above sound wonderful, however if smooooooth and fast are what you like,,,well my 2001 Mustang Bullitt is the best. And it's a "looker" too.
The 1995 Cobra is my choice of poison. It has everything the 1993 Cobra has and more; the ABS, better looking body and wheels, the mach 460 stereo system. This one has the best of both worlds in my opinion. It's got the looks and the moves. This year also marked the last year for the awsome 5.O Liter making this one as special as the 1993 Cobra, but with alot more goodies.
im a sucker for the fox bodies...93 cobra wins my vote..
03/04 Cobras rule....these cars are appreciating in value already. Mach 1's didn't have the built engine like the Terminators had.
1969 Boss 429! They're readily available if you happened to buy shares in Google back in the late 90's. Unfortunately I didn't so I'll vote for my `90 5.0 LX 5 speed coupe. Bright red w/black int. Cost me $13,500 brand new. I still have it. All I've ever spent on it (aside from regular maint, exhaust, brakes) was a couple hundred bucks for 3:55 gears. I'd love to have a `93 Cobra, but if total cost vs performance/reliability is considered the LX coupe wins.
I'm with Army, gotta love the coupes!
03 cobras are nice, but I also agree that the cost to mod is outrageous. I'll take the 93 anyday!
C'mon, everytime you see a 93 Cobra, you find yourself looking to see if it's "real." And then if it is, you're like - DAMN, must be nice. If you see a Mach or Terminator you're trying to see who's dad or granddad is pedalling it in the right lane (with the Vettes).
I own 2 so that's easy for me.
My 01 Roush Stage 3 in Performance Red Superchaaaaaaaaarged is a lot of fun.
Raul Telles says "95 Cobra=93 Cobra with a lot more goodies?" ummm... No. Next you'll tell me that the EEC-IV processor in the 95 is programmed just as aggressively as the 93.... and that the 95 doesn't weigh 200+ lbs. more! Put a TwEECer in the 95, and maybe you'll have yourself a better comparison. Out of the box, I'm in on the '93 all the way.
(Jumps off of soapbox)
I am a fan of all Mustangs but as far as a project car goes the fox wins out. You can buy one for next to nothing and put a few thousand in the car and have a bitchin ride. When you go to the car shows a clean fox is getting harder to find. I wish the M-2300-k brake kit was less expensive. Brakes are a big drawback to these cars. I never understood why it took Ford so long to put more than 4 lugs on thier cars along with disk brakes. The fox could have been so much more with better brakes and wheel selection. I just want to thank you guys at Latemodel Resto for bringing so many parts to the market to make our rides better. Give it up for these guys!!!
I owned a teal 93 Cobra, sweet ride for sure, best Mustang??? I don't know after owning a 05 Supercharged GT
1993 COBRA - agree with Scott - there is no debate.
Fox body coupes!!!!!! Light as hell and endless options. Small block to big block, or mod motor. Can't go wrong.
03-04 cobras are straigt nasty performance wise, but then again they are very expensive performance wise, the 93' also has held it's value much more, my vote goes to the 93'
95 cobra R,and Y2K Cobra R period.these cars were the best .the 95 Cobra had the 351 V8(an engine that never saw the daylight in a fox-bodied mustang).until then.and the Y2K Cobra R with its 385bhp 5.4Litre V8 that did'nt utilize a blower to get those numbers like the terminators did.
95 MUSTANG GT, DARK PURPLE, I CANT FIND OEM PARTS HERE IN KUWAIT, AND A MECHANIC THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING. I PAID 2000 FOR IT AND i HAVE INVESTED ALMOST 4000. REBUILT ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE, KEEPS BACK FIRING
Mustangs sorta took a break. They quit making them in the early 70s and then they began making them again in the mid 90s. Because everyone knows that you have to have 5 lugs to even be considered a TRUE MUSTANG. Did you ever wonder why the fox body cars were and are so cheap? It's because they are so dog gone ugly!!
I like my Four Eyed Fox. Plus, I'm to poor for anything new. The closest to a Cobra I'm getting is my GT40P heads.
